40 years of making music has gone by so quickly.

I have stood onstage with legends of music that inspired me as a teenager like Herbie Hancock, Manu Dibango, Hugh Masekela, Wayne Shorter, Wynton Marsalis, Cassandra Wilson, Dionne Warwick, Marcus Miller, Ernest Ranglin and many others I look forward to creating more projects that reflect on who we are as a humanity.

Modern Day Jazz Stories
In his own words
...My first album for an American label who trusted me to produce a record that reflected who we were in the 90’s. Having worked with DJ’s or turntablist in a live setting I went to New York to make this statement that reflected hip hop, straight ahead jazz and the club culture of the day. The U.K. release was nominated as a mercury music album of the year...

Back In The day
In his own words
...After another gap in recording albums whilst concentrating on my live concerts i decided to create a project that reflected on my upbringing in the 1070’s. Inspired by jazz greats Gil Scott Heron, Julian Cannonball Adderley, Donald Byrd I also included the influence of west Africa. Bands like Osibisa, Fela and Hugh Masekela infused my upbringing and this project reflects that also British icon Joan Armatrading...

Transition In Tradition
In his own words

Europa
In his own words
...What is Europe? This is the question posed by this project. Having toured the continent I felt the need to look deep into the history, science, religion, mythology and culture that created this region of the planet creating Gregorian, Flamenco, classical influences to a jazz score. I decided to lead the project on the bass clarinet exclusively as the timbre of the instrument fitted the concept of the album...

House Of Legends
In his own words
...The Caribbean’ legacy is vast and I tried to reflect through music the contributions to humanity that the people had made. Working with steel pan maestro Annise Hadeed and West Indian legends like trombonist Rico Rodriguez gives this album a completely different sound to my previous albums. On this project as a tribute to the females of the region who have gone unsung (Claudia Jones) I decided to lead the project on the soprano saxophone...

Song (The Ballad Book)
In his own words
...Working in a duet format was very different but performing with the piano virtuoso Zoe Rahman made this project a joy. Jazz standards and 1 original piece make this album a very different flavour to my previous efforts. Black Notes from the Deep
In his own words
...Working with R&B legend Omar has been a longtime ambition of mind, we grew up in the same area of London in fact I can remember playing hide and seek at a summer school in Paddington with him! He is a very busy artist but for this project I pursued him and the contributions he made to this project makes it. I wanted to present our experience as U.K. people in these changing times musically, using jazz music as the translator...

Spirituality
In his own words
...This project started out as a bass clarinet, piano duet but developed into a string quartet album. The title came about after the pandemic which made me reflect into my spirituality. Recorded at the famous Church studios in London the album features a string quartet which is made up of 2 violas, violin and cello. This string section gives a darker sound intentionally arranged by me for this personal reflection on what music can be...
